Thereafter, you will continue to study 40 credits in at least one languages and culture, and at least 20 credits in your second and third languages. Other modules can be taken in one of your three languages, from school-wide modules or from those on offer in the wider University. A modern languages and cultures degree at Sheffield is a confident step into the wider world and you'll be graduating with skills that are highly valued by employers.
You'll learn to communicate fluently and effectively in one, two or three modern languages. You'll also develop a sophisticated understanding of the countries where those languages are spoken. The flexibility of our other degrees means you also have the option to study your chosen topic with either one or two of the languages we have on offer.

This degree will give you a deeper understanding of the crucial relationship between language, culture and society, both within Europe and beyond. Explore the realms of poetry, prose, theatre and film in English and other languages, whilst at the same time learning and applying practical skills in your study of either one or two modern foreign languages. This combination of linguistics and modern languages and cultures will deepen your understanding of how language and languages work.
