RSS Feeds. Chemistry World. Education in Chemistry. The sizes of the Re03 block, which in H-Nb are of two kinds, 3x4 and 3x5, are reduced to one kind in MoNb 3x4. In TiNb the block size is uniform and unchanged, 3 X 4, during the transformation into the compound of the WNb structure type. The transformations are then assumed to occur in the plane of the third axis plus the projection axis fig.
These planes of H-Nb and TiNb 62 are analogous to shear planes. It is already rather troublesome to refine structures of this kind with least squares techniques, and this will indeed become a serious problem in future, when structures with still larger Re03 blocks are found. The last of them corresponds to the composition TiO Ti10O They were all separated by two-phase regions.

However, at n close to 10, the powder patterns were very similar. Electron diffraction and microscopy have been used to study the thermal decomposition of various compounds. However, accurate crys-tallographic work, in form of the determination of the anisotropic thermal parameters of atoms at temperatures close to decomposition, should also be fruitful when deriving the reaction mecanism.
